As Seen On

I left for Tucson, AZ last Thursday for another equine coaching retreat called Unbridled.  Getting ready to go felt exciting.  I was headed to White Stallion Ranch not only to be coached with horses but also to ride through the desert, eat amazing food, and listen to an old cowboy sing even older Western songs.

Yes, I was excited.  But the more I thought about it, the more indulgent I felt… like indulgent in a bad way.  Selfish.  You may remember that I was at Blue Star Ranch in Highlands, NC back in September for a different equine coaching retreat.  Two trips of this caliber in such a short amount of time… who does that?  As a wife and a mother and a business owner, there are more important things to be doing, right?

As I sit in in the aftermath of my trip, in my post-retreat bliss and exhaustion, this quote comes to mind:

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

I guess a woman who believes in freedom and adventure and potential does that – goes on trips that feed her soul.  That help her to believe in the beauty of her dreams.  That inspire her to continue to live life on her own terms, to take advantage of the extra vacation days that come along with being her own boss.  To create her own unique work in the world…

unbridled6After connecting with an amazing group of women, I came home even more inspired to help those who are feeling overwhelmed and anxious in their day-to-day grind to start creating more connection and freedom and peace in their lives.  To let go of the packed schedules and unending to-do lists and start following the threads of ease and passion and fun instead.

I’m also inspired to continue my own personal work around this.  I can be easily overwhelmed, and I often get caught up in my head, worrying about work and kids and what I’m going to put on the table for dinner.  I’m ready to take even more steps to create a life that feels more like a retreat and less like something I need to retreat from.  You know?

And usually it’s not some giant change that has to happen in order to start feeling better.  For instance, I’ve been waking up 30 minutes earlier for a little bit more alone time.  That small adjustment has made a huge difference in my mental state at the start of the day.  Just what I needed.  I also cut my hair short again so I can spend less time on it.  Again, a seemingly small thing that has wielded big results for me.

So what’s one small thing you can do?  To chill out a bit, to ease up, to enjoy life a little more?  To free up time for your dreams.  Pick something, and then do it.  Life is too short, and there’s too much fun to be had (see below).  🙂

I hope you’ll join me in my baby steps forward.  And if you need some inspiration, here are some pics from my trip to get you started dreaming and scheming a bit.

XOXO,
