As Seen On

I shared on Instagram recently about a small miracle that happened one morning, in the dark, before my kids woke up for school.

I got out a blank sketchbook and my paints.  I stared out my back window at the full moon which still hung low in the sky, and I got started on the first blank page.  The first page is always the hardest, no?  I’ve been wanting to do this one simple thing for MONTHS.

In my Instagram post, I asked why it takes soooo long sometimes to do the things we know will be best for us, that will inspire our creativity, that will feed our soul.  The things that, when we finally do them, feel miraculous even though they’re so simple.

I guess life just happens sometimes.  When you have bills to pay and mouths to feed and a husband in grad school… who has time for creativity?  It’s easy to wake up and work before the kids get up, sit back down to work as soon as the husband bustles them into the car, and work again after the little ankle biters go to bed at night.  Then wake up and repeat.  Work, work, work.

Well, that simple act of painting for a few minutes has woken something in me.  I have ideas flowing, little golden threads waiting to be followed.  I’m poking around now, seeing which one seems the most fun, that’s calling me most strongly.  I love the feeling of inspiration.

And it’s perfect timing, really.  As I head into the new year, I’m writing furiously in my new planner and re-thinking how I want to spend my time.  I’m going to take a step even further in the direction of walking my talk, of letting go of overwhelm and taking advantage of some of the perks of being self-employed.

I’m starting by setting some boundaries around my mornings and my nights.  They’re going to be just for me now.  Whether it’s meditation, journaling, snuggling with my husband (who just graduated, by the way – yay!), or getting some extra zzz’s, I’m opening up space in my life for more mindfulness.  More creativity.  More peace.

I’m wondering now, as I write this, if you’d like to join me in a change of pace.  If you’d like to open any space in your life for your own golden threads, the little whispers of a deeper pull toward more creativity and connection.  If so, I’d love to hear what your whispers are.  Or what change you might like to make.

I want to help you hold the space for it to happen.  Let me know in the comments below.  I’d love to connect with you there.

To an awesome 2017, full of more of what we love,
